MPSM: An Overview

With the rapid growth of the infrastructural as well as service sectors and the investment being made by the global companies, the demand for management graduates with Public Systems Specializations i.e. Environment, Energy, Health Care & Hospital and Transportation & Logistics is increasing. The IISWBM, the pioneer in the fields of management education, has started the Public Systems Management (PSM) programmes in 1993 with the objective to meet these demands. The unique PSM Programme was taken up at the behest of the Government of India and in pursuance of the recommendations of a Task Force constituted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India under the Chairmanship of Prof. Ashok Chanda for efficient management of sectoral services. The rationale behind Task Force recommendation is that management has been generally associated with business activities in the corporate sector with orientation towards profit. However, in functional areas of public service and public benefits also, professional with management expertise are greatly necessary. Accordingly, IISWBM was called upon to conduct specialized management courses in areas like Environment, Energy, Healthcare & Hospital and Transportation & Logistics Management and produce professionals and experts who can help in optimum utilization of resources and efficient & effective service to the people. The PSM course has been recognized by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and accredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), Ministry of Human Resource Development, and Government of India. The University of Calcutta has upgraded this programme as their Master Degree course from session 2009 – 2011.

Our MPSM programme has moved from strength to strength in the last few years in terms of knowledge and managerial skills. With the professionalization at the Central, State and Local Governments, and the growth in private sector investments, there is and will be a great demand for our Post Graduates in Energy Management as well as of other stream
